Common questions

What mileage rate does MileMind use?+
MileMind applies HMRC's approved rates for the 2026/27 tax year: 55p a mile for the first 10,000 business miles and 25p a mile after that. Figures are indicative and provided for convenience — they're not tax advice, so do check anything you submit.
Can I use it for self-assessment?+
Yes. Tag journeys as business or personal and MileMind builds an HMRC-ready report you can export as a tidy tax-year PDF for self-assessment or your accountant.
What if my employer already pays me some mileage?+
If your employer pays you less than the approved rate (or nothing), you can usually claim the difference back through self-assessment or a P87. MileMind keeps the total you're entitled to so you can see the gap.
What if one of my cars isn't used for work?+
Business tracking is per-vehicle. Turn it off for a car and every business and HMRC surface disappears for that vehicle — the family runaround stays clutter-free while the work car keeps a full claim record.
Is MileMind free?+
Yes — MileMind is completely free to use. There's no subscription, no in-app purchases and no ads. Sign in is via Sign in with Apple.

Rates shown are the HMRC approved mileage allowance payments for the 2026/27 tax year, correct to the best of our knowledge at the time of writing (the car rate rose to 55p from 6 April 2026). This is general information, not tax advice — always confirm current rates and rules at gov.uk or with your accountant before you claim.
